Elric Alan Gates was born in San Bernardino, CA in 1987. He began as an artist at the age of six;
sculpting and drawing for himself as well as for friends and teachers at
Hillside Elementary where he attended school.
With encouragement from his peers and teachers, he adopted art as a
lifestyle, winning recognition awards from his school every quarter from
first grade on until sixth. In fifth
grade he entered the San Bernardino County fifth grade art contest, and won
first place. He went on each year to
enter sixth, seventh, and eighth grade contests as well, winning first place
in each. In seventh and eighth grade
he attended Golden Valley Middle School where Elric took his first art
class. And by the end of eighth grade
Golden Valley permanently introduced and presented Elric with an art
accomplishment award that included over two hundred fifty dollars in art
supplies. After that Elric started at
Cajon High School as a teacher’s assistant for all of the art classes in the
school. It was then, at the age of
fourteen, he decided his life goal was to become a successful artist and art
professor. To begin his reach towards
that goal, in tenth grade, he tested out of high school and began working for
college tuition. At seventeen he
enrolled himself at Crafton Hills College in Yucaipa, CA. While he attended Elric met and began
dating Rebecca Cutter. At the end of
two semesters Elric and Rebecca moved to Portland, OR where they married and
bought their first house. Elric and
Rebecca both still live there, and Elric is now attending Portland Community
College as a full time art student. |
